My name is James Witmyer and God’s grace has been present throughout my life’s journey.
I was born and raised in Bakersfield, California. Strong foundations were set during childhood as I attended Heritage Christian Schools from Preschool to 8th grade. After graduating from Bakersfield Christian High School in 2004, I began to follow a calling into ministry, with using my passion for learning & teaching in the Church.
I was licensed for ministry in 2004 by Valley Baptist Church. Then, in 2008, I graduated from California Baptist University, where I received my Bachelor’s degree in Applied Theology. Later that year, I married my wife, Keri, and we moved to Louisville, Kentucky to attend seminary. In 2012, I graduated from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with my Master of Divinity degree. In 2013, I was ordained for ministry by Little Flock Baptist Church.
During 2005-2016, I served on multiple church staffs in student ministry, recreation ministry, and media ministry, holding various staff positions. Eventually, my family moved back to Bakersfield in 2016, and I began working as a Chaplain & Spiritual Counselor for a local hospice company. Then, in the summer of 2017, God brought me back to Heritage, this time to teach the Junior High Bible classes part-time. During this time, I received my ACSI Educator’s Certification. In the summer of 2019, I began teaching at Heritage full-time, adding on the 7th & 8th Literature/Vocab, 7th World History, and 8th Earth Science classes. I enjoy being able to use all these classes to integrate classical education by exploring logic, philosophy, worldview, Latin & Greek roots, and other classical elements.
My wife, Keri, and I have been married since 2008, and we have 3 children: Desmond (6) who attends Kindergarten at Heritage, Evangeline (4), and Penelope (7 weeks).
